Winger Penny joins Quins on loan

Harlequins have signed Warrington winger Kevin Penny on a one month loan deal.

Penny, 22, made his Super League debut in 2007 and went on to score 15 tries in 15 games during his first season and was named in the Super League Dream Team.

Quins head coach Brian McDermott said: “We have not managed to replace Jon Wells yet and we have far too little competition among our outside backs so this is a good deal for us.

“Kevin has some real out and out speed. While that is not the only category you need to fill to be a good winger, it will certainly give an added threat to our attacking options which we need at the moment.”

Penny spent some time on loan at Championship side Widnes last season, helping them to win the Northern Rail Cup, and he is likely to make his Quins debut in Saturday’s rugby double header against St Helens.

The rugby league game follows Harlequins rugby union clash with Leeds Carnegie at Twickenham Stoop.
