Williamson hopes to hit the road running

Luke Williamson is confident Harlequins will get off to a winning start when they play their first match on the road this Sunday at Warrington.

The Australian second rower said the team were encouraged by their defensive performance in last weekend’s defeat to Wakefield. Since then, Quins have working hard on the training field to strengthen their attack ahead of their encounter with Wolves.

“Wakefield was our first real hit out of the year following our weather-hit preseason.” said Williamson who is now in his second season with the London club.

“Defensively we were very good, however we didn’t complete as many sets of six as we’d have like, forcing us to defend even harder.

“Whilst there was some consolation to be had from our defence, we obviously want the two points. This week we’ve been working hard on our offensive plays to give us the full package.”

Speaking on this Sunday’s opposition, Williamson added;

“Warrington were our last game of 2009 and this will be their first game of 2010. They’ve made some good recruits during the off season so we’re expecting them to come at us.”
