The incident came during Sunday’s opening engage Super League match – in which the Saints beat Huddersfield 18-10 – when Wilkin was sin-binned for an elbow on Thorman after the scrum-half had kicked down field.

Wilkin admitted the offence when he appeared before the panel in Leeds, and Saints coach Daniel Anderson commented: "It was a careless tackle and he does regret it."

The 23-year-old was fined £300 in addition to his suspension, which will see him miss St HelensSuper League fixtures against Harlequins and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

However, Wilkin will still be available when the Saints take on Brisbane Broncos in the Carnegie World Club Challenge on the 23rd February at the Reebok Stadium.
