Former Super League prop Oliver Wilkes has joined Workington Town from Barrow Raiders for the 2018 season.

The 37-year-old has penned a one-year deal with Town and he helped Barrow gain promotion to the Championship from League 1 in 2017.

And he revealed that he would love to get promoted with fellow Cumbrian side Workington.

Wilkes said: “I thought I was going to finish my career at Barrow but after negotiations and prospects of work up the coast with my employer Jacobs, things changed.

“Town are an ambitious club, steeped in history and the recruitment of Leon Pryce, who I have known for a lot of years, showed their ambition. I decided that I wanted to be a part of that.

“Over the years, I have been promoted several times so I’m no stranger to it and what it takes.

“I’m getting older but I am there to do a job and I will work my socks off to do the best I can for Workington.”

Wilkes have previously played in Super League with Huddersfield Giants, Wigan Warriors, Widnes Vikings, Wakefield Trinity and London Broncos.
