Wakefield and Huddersfield square up in a vital West Yorkshire derby at Belle Vue this weekend.
The two clubs both enjoyed fantastic starts to the season but in recent weeks have seen results go against them and Sunday will see John Kear and Nathan Brown’s sides lock horns as they look to get back on the winning trail.
Current Wildcat forward Steve Snitch swapped the Galpharm for Belle Vue at the end of 2008 and he is relishing the opportunity of facing up against some of his old teammates.
“When I was at Huddersfield coming back to play against Wakefield was always a game I looked forward to so this is just the same,” revealed the 25-year old.
“Huddersfield have been one of the best teams in Super League this year and we’ve had a bit of dip in form, but we’ve done our video reviews and we’re going into the game looking to get the result we want.”
Standing in the Wildcats way will be a Giants side containing some familiar faces, including former Wakefield prop forward Darrell Griffin.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing in Wakefield and in my opinion it’s one of the best grounds in the league to play at,” Griffin enthused.
“I’ve got some great memories here and no matter who I’ve played for I always look forward to coming back to play here.”
With just 16 miles separating the two clubs Griffin says the derby atmosphere will make Sunday’s encounter even more fiercely contested.
“Fans have quite a bit of banter with each other and there are local bragging rights up for grabs a bit.”
Griffin continued: “Derby games are fantastic occasions and with the crowd on top of you it makes for a really intense game.”
