Wigan to use last year as motivation, says Tomkins

Wigan full-back Sam Tomkins says the Warriors will use the frustration of losing two semi-finals last year to spur them on to bigger things in 2013.

The Warriors set the pace in the regular season, finishing top of the Super League table, but saw their hopes of further silverware diminished by Leeds, who saw them off in both the Challenge Cup semi-finals and the Super League play-offs.

Having won the Challenge Cup in 2011 and the Super League Grand Final in 2010, last season ultimately provided a disappointing end for Tomkins.

He told the club’s official website: “Last year we were the most consistent team and won the League Leaders Shield, but the two main pieces of silverware we were up for – the Challenge Cup and the Grand Final – we lost in the semi-finals of both.

“We know that we’ve got to go one step further this year and we will probably use that frustration from last year.

“We won’t want that feeling of losing a semi-final again.

“I am looking forward to the new season and can’t wait to get started,me personally I just want to get the ball in hand.”

Wigan get their campaign under way with a visit to Salford at the weekend.
