Wigan Warriors have become the first professional sports club in the UK to advertise an upcoming match on terrestrial television.

The Warriors will be using ITV to promote the Big One 2, the game which sees Wigan take on Warrington in engage Super League at the DW Stadium on Friday 16th July.

The advert will be aired in the Granada region for seven days from today and will feature during prime time TV programmes including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, the ITV Early Evening News and Piers Morgan on Shanghai, as well as daytime favourites including Dickinson’s Real Deal, Jeremy Kyle, Loose Women and This Morning.

Warriors Marketing Director Simon Collinson said: “As far as we understand this is the first time any professional sports club in the UK has used television to advertise a game, and we feel that the Big One 2 is befitting of such a powerful advertising medium.”

The TV advert features Warriors star Sam Tomkins and over 80 fans who acted as extra’s in the production, based around the theme ‘have you got your seat’ and was produced by Edinburgh-based Plum Films under the direction of leading Producer Micky MacPherson.

Collinson added: “We wanted to create an advert that features a strong call-to-action but also one that shows the humorous and family nature of the sport as well as the high tempo action of Super League, particularly given that it will be selling the Club and sport of Rugby League to a new audience.”
