Wigan have teamed up with npower to give back to the community this Christmas.

The Community Blitz returned for its second year on Monday, as 120 players, officials and staff volunteered 15 hours of their time to spread some Christmas cheer and community spirit across the Wigan Borough.

In its second year, the npower Wigan Warriors Community Blitz saw all the club’s teams and staff members volunteer their time at several community projects in the local area.

In total, the Warriors tackled 14 separate projects that included hospital, care home and school visits, community rugby initiatives, working at a local sheltered accommodation and a Warriors car wash for emergency service vehicles in the town.

Warriors head coach Adrian Lam was on hand throughout the night, where he took part in hosing down Fire Engines and Ambulances, painting and decorating in the local Women’s Refuge and donating to the town’s local Food Bank.

Club partner npower, ramped up their support for the Community Blitz, having already been a driving force behind last season’s pilot project when they provided Warriors’ transport to each location. In addition to funding this year’s fleet of vans, npower also provided a support squad of 20 npower staff who volunteered to drive the Wigan teams to their chosen destination and to assist them on each project.

Wigan Warriors, Executive Director, Kris Radlinski: “We are acutely aware of our responsibilities as the town’s rugby team that we have an obligation to give back to our community, and for us, the npower Wigan Warriors Community Blitz is something that we are very proud to be rolling out once again.

“Christmas is traditionally a time where people rally around each other, so to have our club partner npower, all of our teams, our head coach Adrian Lam and all the Wigan Warriors staff rolling their sleeves up to help in some very important community projects is something that is a great source of pride for us as an organisation.”
