Wigan see red but go top

Wigan have replaced Hull FC at the top of the Super League ladder with a dramatic last-minute 22-18 win over Wakefield with just 12 men.

Wigan lost captain Sean O’Loughlin in the first half, after he was red-carded for a high tackle. The Warriors also had two players sin-binned in the first 40 minute.

But the home team led at the break 10-6 after tries from Oliver Gildart and Sam Powell.

Wakefield surged ahead in the second half and seemed set for the win with the score 16-18 with a minute left.

But a pinpoint kick found Lewis Tierney, who touched down and won the game for Wigan.

The Warrior’s win, and Hull FC‘s loss to Leeds, sees them move to the top of the table.
