Wigan reserves recorded a 100-0 victory over Castleford Tigers at Robin Park on Wednesday.

The Warriors named Umyla Hanley, Sam Halsall, James McDonnell and Matty Nicholson in their team. Brazilian forward Ramon Silva also featured from the bench.

Danny Richardson was named in the halves for the Tigers. Cheyse Blair featured at back-row, while Cain Robb and Brad Martin also played.

It took the hosts just five minutes to cross through winger Ben O’Keefe, opening the door to 96 more points.

Having made his debut just two weeks ago scoring a brace against Huddersfield, Nicholson crossed on 21 minutes.

Halsall, who has made four appearances for the first team so far in 2022, crossed early in the second half. He was assisted by Logan Astley, who also made his Super League debut against the Giants at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Halsall completed a hat-trick on 54 minutes, before adding his fourth just 10 minutes later.

Nicholson then grabbed his brace on 67 minutes, making the score 86-0. 20-year-old Halsall then collected his fifth try of the evening, bringing up the 100 mark for his side.

Challenge Cup final between Wigan and Huddersfield

Wigan’s first team face Huddersfield Giants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Saturday for the prestigious Challenge Cup final.

Wigan last lifted the trophy in 2013, beating Hull 16-0 at Wembley. They last featured in the final in 2017, losing to the same opponents they last beat with a 18-14 scoreline.

Huddersfield will be looking to end a 69-year wait to lift the prestigious cup once more. Their last appearance in the final came in 2009, losing 25-16 to Warrington.

The Warriors have claimed the title more than anyone – an incredible 19 times. Huddersfield have lifted the trophy on six occasions – their last in 1953.
