Wigan have confirmed that they have released prop Epalahame Lauaki from his contract.

Lauaki, 29, joined the Warriors from Hull on a three-year deal in 2012, and still had one year remaining at the DW Stadium.

A club statement said: “After numerous requests from the player over the last year to be released from his playing contract, the Club has agreed to his request. The player is now back in New Zealand with his family.”

A former New Zealand and Tonga international, Lauaki represented the Exiles during his stint in Super League, which began when he moved to Hull from New Zealand Warriors in 2009.
