Wigan prove a TV hit

Leaders Wigan are the most popular team on SKY this season, ranked first, second, third and fourth in the most watched games of 2010 so far.

The two local derbies versus St Helens and Warrington are ranked first and second averaging 286,200 and 269,400 viewers respectively.  The third most watched Super League game was the Wigan v Hull Kingston Rovers which produced the highest peak viewing figures of the season at 415,600. 

In fourth place was the Wigan v Leeds Rhinos game watched by an average of over 262,000 TV viewers. The Warriors other live TV game v Bradford Bulls is ranked seventh.
 
Speaking about the results, CEO Mick Hogan commented: “It is fantastic news that Wigan Warriors are proving to be the most popular team to watch live on Sky Sports.  Our average for 2010 so far is over 80% up on all games in 2009. 

“These figures are great news for our sponsors and perimeter board advertisers.  They demonstrate that the engage Super League is a tremendous sport for television and that when it comes to providing entertaining rugby Wigan Warriors are certainly delivering. 

“Not only is the team producing superb attacking Rugby League but the closeness and excitement of the derbies versus St Helens and Warrington in front of sell out crowds have obviously appealed to the TV viewers.”
