Wigan made to wait

Wigan missed out on the chance to seal the league leader’s shield in front of their home fans as they were beaten 18-16 by Huddersfield.

It was a second consecutive home defeat for the Warriors following last month’s 23-16 reverse at the hands of Warrington as Nathan Brown’s Giants sent out an early warning ahead of the play-offs.

Wigan ended a feisty first half 10-0 to the good thanks to tries from Karl Pryce and Joel Tomkins, but Huddersfield fought back with tries from Leroy Cudjoe and ex-Wigan half-back Luke Robinson to edge in front.

Sam Tomkins raced in from 70-metres to put the Warriors back in front, but Cudjoe’s converted second gave the visitors the two points, to keep alive their hopes of a fourth place finish.
