Wigan coach Matt Peet presented recently retired and former Warriors centre Dan Sarginson with his heritage shirt ahead of the Super League clash with Salford.

Sarginson, 29, called time on his career earlier this month.

The two-time Grand Final winner had been out of action this year with the Red Devils due to illness. But Sarginson revealed that a new passion in his life had led him to a new direction away from the playing field.

A centre with Gold Coast Titans and London Broncos, Sarginson was pitch side at the DW Stadium speaking to Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks before Peet presented him with his heritage shirt.

“I think I played about with the idea for a long time,” Sarginson said on Sky Sports regarding his retirement.

“I think if I had listened to my mind, I probably would have stayed in the game and stayed in that comfortability.

“But I just had to follow my heart in the end and it was being pulled in a different direction I suppose.”

On a post on social media, Sarginson had revealed that he would like to pursue a new career in helping others.

“I think I’ve got a passion for helping people and sharing my story through my struggles and how I’ve managed to come out the other side of it,” Sarginson said on what’s next.

“If I can help anyone in life, I think that’s where my passion lies and hopefully I can explore that moving forward.”

Wigan coach Peet, 38, then joined the duo live on Sky Sports.

“We’re very proud of him,” said Peet, with his side taking on the Red Devils at 8:00pm.

“We love him to bits to be honest with you. He’s a really good advert for the game I think.

“It’s been a privilege to see how he’s developed himself.

“I think even the way that he’s decided to go out on his own terms for the reason he has shows a lot of courage and the same bravery he showed in the way he played, he’s shown in how he’s decided to end his career and develop the next stage of his life which I think is really exciting.”

Sarginson was also invited onto the field moments before kick-off, met by applauds by both sets of fans inside the DW Stadium.
