Wigan coach Adrian Lam on Oliver Gildart’s future amid NRL speculation

Wigan coach Adrian Lam has opened up on Oliver Gildart’s future, with the England international having been linked with a move to the NRL.

The 24-year-old centre, who is off-contract at the end of the season, is attracting interest from the NRL, with former Warriors coach Michael Maguire thought to be keen to take the England international to Wests Tigers.

Lam says there is not much Wigan could do if Gildart decides to pursue his dream of playing in the NRL next season, but insists he remains committed to Wigan in 2021.

Lam said: “I know he has a dream of playing in the NRL, that’s been clear. As it stands, he’s off contract with us at the end of the year, there’s always going to be interest and, if he decides to go down that path of joining the NRL, there’s not much we can do about it as a club.

“But he brings a lot to us as a team. We’re looking forward to having him back, his head is in a good place and he’s not talking to any NRL clubs at the moment.

“I think it’s the management group which do the negotiations and put the feelers out there.”

Gildart has yet to play this season because of a troubling groin injury but could return within the next fortnight.
