Wigan 40-6 Hull KR

Hat-tricks from both Pat Richards and Sam Tomkins secured a comfortable victory over Hull KR at the DW Stadium this evening.

Wigan started strongly with Tomkins crossing in only the second minute in the host’s first attack of the game. Richards was next on the scoresheet after good work by Finch and Carmont saw the winger go over in the corner.

Rovers enjoyed their spell of possession shortly after and made the pressure count on 36 minutes with Welham going over after receiving an inside pass from Cockayne.

With seconds remaining of the half, Tomkins kicked through behind Fox with Richards touching down in the corner after the hooter. The try was eventually given by video referee Ben Thalar although it appeared as if Richards bounced the ball over the line.

The contravertial decision gave Wigan the advantage at half time by going in 16-6 at the break.

There were plenty of errors in the early stages of the second half with Hull KR enjoying more of the possession. Rovers had their chance to turn possession into points after a rare Tomkins fumble in the in goal area forced a drop out.

However, the Wigan defence forced a knock on to relieve the pressure and from that moment the hosts never looked back.

Tomkins received a Finch pass on 59 minutes, stepped inside two defenders and scored under the posts.

Joel Tomkins released Charnley on 69 minutes before Leuluai floated a pass to Sam Tomkins who touched down for his hat-trick.

Gaps opened up for Wigan in the last 10 minutes with Carmont collecting a high bomb and broke free before passing to Richards for the winger to go in for his hat-trick. The scoring was rounded off after Joel Tomkins sent Carmont over to give Wigan a comprehensive victory.
