Pat Richards scored two tries and kicked five goals as Wigan continued to improve on the pitch, with a second consecutive victory over Salford City Reds.

The Warriors knocked the Reds out of the Challenge Cup last week, setting up a mouth-watering tie with Warrington Wolves, and steam-rollered Shaun McRae’s men.

Four tries in the opening sixteen minutes put Wigan in a powerful position and set them on the road to recording a big score.

George Carmont set the ball rolling with a try after just two minutes, before Amos Roberts applied a second three minutes later.

Richards extended the lead after 12 minutes, before Cameron Phelps grabbed the fourth try of the evening.

Salford did managed to hit back through Luke Swain, but it was merely a consolation as Richards grabbed his second and the Warriors fifth to put them 28-6 up at half-time.

Mark Henry did grab another try for the Reds nine minutes after the interval, but they could not build on it and Harrison Hansen ended matters completely twenty minutes later, despite a late effort from Salford captain Malcolm Alker.
