Widnes Vikings will hold an open trial evening on Monday 22 January at the Halton Stadium to aid recruitment for their Women’s team.

The Vikings have recently formed a Women’s team that will compete in the Women’s Super League this year.

The Vikings Sports Foundation are delivering programmes that support girls as young as seven to participate in the sport at the minute, in a bid to increase female engagement in the sport.

And the open-age team will have the opportunity to play and train at the Halton Stadium. The team will be led by the Vikings Sports Foundation but players will benefit from having regular access to the Vikings performance gym and first team coaches and conditioners.

The trial evening will take place on Monday 22 January between 6pm and 7pm, with registration starting from 5:30pm onwards.

Widnes are looking for players aged 16+ and the coaching staff have asked all attendees to bring boots with them to the session.

Vikings Women’s head coach, Andy Sheridan, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming everybody on Monday evening.”

“Next week allows us the opportunity for us to have a look at all those who are attending and run them through condition-based games with a view to making them a part of our team.

“If you are 16 and above and want to be part of history by playing for the Club’s first ever Women’s team, then come along and get involved.”
