Widnes sign Pickersgill

Widnes have confirmed the signing of Warrington prop forward Steve Pickersgill on a three year deal.

Pickersgill, 23, spent time on loan at the Stobart Stadium this season and was part of the side that won the Northern Rail Cup in July.

He was recalled by the Wolves in the build-up to their Challenge Cup final victory, which ruled him out of Widnes’ play-off charge.

Sporting Director Terry O’Connor said: “Steve is a good, young, tough English forward. He’s the kind of forward who will put his hand up in any situation – he plays for his team mates.

“In two years time he will be 24/25 and ready to be a regular Super League frontrower.”

Pickersgill is Paul Cullen’s second signing, following the capture of Castleford three-quarter James Ford.
