Widnes release three more players

Widnes Vikings have announced that they have released three more of their 2011 first team squad as they prepare for life in Super League next season.

The club have announced that Anthony Thackeray, Steve Tyrer and James Coyle will all depart the club and will begin to look for new clubs.

Former crowd favourite Thackeray, who has spent most of the season on loan at the York City Knights, joined the club in 2007 and made 70 appearances, scoring 40 tries in the process.

Tyrer, who previously had two loan deals with the Vikings, has scored an impressive 30 tries and 147 goals in just 38 appearances.

Coyle, who was in his second spell with the Vikings, made 31 appearances scoring 5 tries for Widnes and has also had spells with Wigan, Oldham and Barrow.

Commenting on the announcement, Director of Rugby Paul Cullen said “On behalf of everybody connected at Widnes Vikings, I’d like to thank all three players for their contributions to the cause during their time at the club. We wish them the best of luck for their respective futures.”
