Widnes release Thomas Coyle

Widnes have continued their re-building for the 2013 season by releasing hooker Thomas Coyle.

Coyle, 24, missed the whole of last season after breaking his leg in the first Under 20’s game of last season, against Wakefield at the Stobart Stadium.

Having previously played for Wigan, Halifax and Oldham, Coyle joined the Vikings ahead of the 2010 season, and was the club’s only ever present in 2011, earning himself the Players’ Player of the Year award, and a full-time Super League contract.

However, after suffering that compound fracture of his left tibia and fibula, he was denied his chance to perform at the highest level.

Coach Denis Betts said: “On behalf of the club and its members and supporters, I would like to thank Thomas for his time, effort and energies spent in a Vikings shirt.

“Whilst doing so, I would also like to wish him the best of luck for his future.”
