Widnes relaxed ahead of play-off debut

Widnes captain Jon Clarke says that the Vikings are quietly confident of causing a shock against Warrington.

Clarke, 35, retires at the end of the season to become Widnes’ head of strength and conditioning, so defeat against his former club would be the final game of his career.

The game also marks the Vikings’ first appearance in the Super League play-offs, but Clarke says he and his teammates are under no pressure.

“Warrington are the favourites and the pressure is all on them, we go into the game in a relaxed mood,” said Clarke.

“We have been building something special with a great group for a few years now, and the time is right for us to challenge in the play-offs.

“Compared to previous years, in 2014 we have had a level of consistency, and we have proved that we can go to places like Warrington and win.”
