Widnes charity match for former amateur player

A Widnes Vikings All Stars team will entertain local amateur side Halton Simms Cross in a charity match in aid of former Simms Cross player Mark Sheppard on Sunday, October 28th.

Sheppard was severely injured during a fall on his stag-do weekend in Tenerife, which resulted in serious head injuries and saw him placed onto a life support machine.

After months of recovery in the Tenerife hospital, Mark was eventually flown home by air ambulance and was immediately taken to the Walton Centre for Neurology.

The year since the accident has been hugely traumatic for Mark and his family and friends and despite currently being in a care home in Walton, unable to do anything for himself but breathe, the community have continued to show fantastic levels of support in raising money for Mark and his family in order to give him as good a quality of life as possible

With a 2pm Kick Off at Gossages Rec in Widnes, this Sunday, the community will once again come together for the second challenge match between the two sides. The Ex Pro’s, will be looking to avenge game one, after defeat first time around and with more and more legends from the past throwing their hat into the ring, it should make for a very tasty encounter indeed.

After the game, entertainment including a quiz and a Dutch Auction and a local band will be provided at Widnes Bowling Club from 7pm and it is hoped that a substantial amount of money can be raised from the day.

Everything is FREE, but of course the organising committee with be glad to accept donations. If you would like more details, please contact leamfox@hotmail.com or call Leam on 07885431343
