Widnes Vikings have announced that four-time NRL winning coach Tim Sheens will take charge in 2020.

Kieron Purtill left the position earlier this month to take the assistant coach role with Hull FC in the Super League.

Sheens, 68, was sacked by Hull KR during the 2019 season after two and a half years at the club.

The three-time ‘Dally M’ coach of the year led Australia to Rugby League World Cup glory in 2013, and has previously coached Penrith Panthers, Canberra Raiders, North Queensland Cowboys, Wests Tigers and New South Wales.

The club have confirmed that they will be part-time in 2020, with the likes of Jack Owens, Danny Craven, Joe Lyons, along with Jay and Ted Chapelhow all extending their stay with the Vikings.
