Widdop hopeful of Dragons improvement

England stand-off Gareth Widdop is hopeful that St George-Illawarra Dragons can find some form after a poor start to 2015.

The Dragons have lost their opening two NRL games, to Melbourne Storm and Wests Tigers, and have lacked sharpness in attack.

But the Yorkshireman is convinced that the team has the talent to turn things round for the weekend game at Canberra Raiders.

“It probably hasn’t worked as well as we wanted the last two weeks but it’s a long season and it can be turned around,” Widdop said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“We’ve created a lot of drop-outs and threatened at times but we just haven’t been able to finish. We just need to fix that. It’s just about everyone buying into the same thing and working hard and hopefully things will turn around.

“There’s a lot of youth in their team with new energy and new desire and they seem to have got a lot of confidence about them.

“It’s a short turnaround now so we’ve just got to recover and get ourselves right for Saturday.”
