Whitehaven to wave farewell to Parker for now

Papua New Guinea centre Jessie Joe Parker will play his last club game of the season for Whitehaven against Dewsbury on Thursday.

Parker, 27, has been granted permission by the Cumbrian club to return home early due to an “urgent family issue”.

He is still expected to play for Papua New Guinea in the World Cup at the end of the year, and has also signed a contract to remain at the Recre for 2014.

Parker, who is in his second year with Whitehaven, first came to the UK in 2009 with Featherstone, before signing a deal to play in Super League for Wakefield in 2011, but failed to turn up to pre-season training and was released.
