Whitehaven are to use the new iPitch facility at Widnes’ Stobart Stadium on Saturday as part of their pre-season preparations.

With freezing conditions hampering many club training sessions ahead of the new season, Whitehaven have been handed the chance to train on the 4G pitch by former coach Paul Cullen, now Director of Rugby at Widnes.

Chief executive Barry Richardson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the players to train on the very latest technology and push for a place in next weeks starting line up at Hunslet.

“We would like to thank Widnes and Paul Cullen for allowing this to happen.”

The Whitehaven squad, which includes former Widnes pair Lee Doran and Richard Varkulis, were due to train at the Recreation Ground on Saturday, and then spend the rest of the day on a team building trip.
