Whitehaven have confirmed they will run a reserve team from 2020 and beyond.

The club announced they would run the second-string outfit at an open fans meeting held at the Recreation Ground on Friday night.

Haven, among other clubs, will be attending a meeting with the Rugby Football League next week, where the possibility of introducing a proper reserves competition from next year will be discussed.

In the meantime, the Cumbrian club will meet with local community clubs in regards to setting up their ‘A’ team.

In a statement released by Whitehaven, it read: “Whitehaven firmly believe that a reserve grade is a vital component in the club’s goal of having a predominantly local and sustainable Championship side.

“Funding initiatives for the reserves are already underway and the club would ask all those who are interested in providing a pathway for the best local talent to get in touch with the club.”
