Whitehaven prop Amor claims award

Whitehaven prop Kyle Amor has been named Championship player of the month, just four months after making his pro debut.

Amor, 22, has put in some excellent displays for the Cumbrian side and fought off competition from Halifax’s Miles Greenwood and Gateshead forward Michael Knowles to win the award.

He told the Whitehaven News & Star: “In my first year, this is great news.

“I’m chuffed to bits. I expected to get a couple of first-team games this season but nowhere near as many as I’ve had.

“I just hope to keep playing the way I am now, and hopefully we can end up doing something at the end of the year. We are all training hard, and I’m doing extras on my own. It’s paying off on the field.”

Amor signed a three-year deal at the Recre last season, but was made to wait for his first team debut by Ged Stokes.

He added: “I’d played back-to-back rugby for three years, and the main thing he told me to do was rest for a few months, do my weights and come back for a good pre-season.”
