Whitehaven outclass All Golds
Gloucestershire All Golds were outclassed by a very strong Whitehaven outfit who scored eleven tries in racking up their highest score of the season so far.
The comprehensive 62-6 victory moves them above Barrow into second place in the League 1 table and keeps their promotion ambitions on course.
Their only loss so far this term was a defeat to pacesetters Toronto Wolfpack, and although the All Golds put in the effort it was in vain against a bigger side.
After a cagey opening where the sides took a look at each other, Whitehaven got the scoring underway with a try by Jordan Burns from a neat offload by Chris Taylor after eight minutes.
Forster went over for the next try after having been held up over the line in the opening exchanges, before Steve Roper’s break down the middle sent Scott McAvoy in.
Elliot Miller touched down for the first of his hat-trick after Carl Forster had again made inroads into the defence as the home side set off at the rate of a point a minute.
After that, the scoring eased off as the home side began to lose focus, but they quickly regained it with two tries before the break.
The first, to Craig Calvert, was as soft as you’ll see as the All Golds lost the ball at a scrum and the winger was presented with a walk-in.
After the half-time hooter had sounded, Forster again smashed through and Tommy Holland scored from his deft offload.
It was much the same story in the second half but the All Golds upped the physicality which resulted in more of a contest as well as the occasional confrontation.
After twelve minutes’ play, the scoreboard began to move again when James Newton showed the ball left then went right to go over from close in and then Miller got through the defence sending Jessie-Joe Parker in for a well-received try.
Dion Aiye then cut an unstoppable line to bring up the half century and from the restart Parker produced a perfectly timed pass to send Calvert away and Miller scored his second of the day.
The procession was momentarily halted as Davies’ chip over the top was misjudged by Calvert and Steven Nield was able to pick up the loose ball and send Mo Agoro in for his 13th League 1 try of the season.
Whitehaven had the last word as Parker gave Miller his hat-trick and Paul Crook added his ninth goal to end a tough afternoon for the All Golds.
