Wales Rugby League have revealed that Widnes hooker Lloyd White will captain the side for the forthcoming European Championship.

The squad’s vice-captain will be Wigan Warriors forward Ben Flower.

Cardiff-born White has won 12 caps for Wales, with his first coming against England in 2009.

Flower has captained Wales before, and has 17 Welsh caps in total to his credit.

“I’m very pleased to have been appointed captain and obviously I’m looking forward to it. I’m proud and hoping to do a good job,” said White.

“There are plenty of spots up for grabs and hopefully we’ll bring back a few players from last year as well as bolstering with a more experienced squad this time around.

“I’m especially looking forward to playing at Cardiff Arms Park on October 30 as it’s my home city.

“It’s the 80th anniversary match so it’ll be an event to be a part of. I know that quite a few friends and family will come to watch.

“We’ve got four big games including of course the Danny Jones Testimonial in Keighley. That itself will be a tough day for everyone involved as he was a good friend to everyone. It’ll be a sad day but we’re happy to play in his memory.

“I’m pleased that Ben Flower has been appointed vice-captain. He’s one of my closest mates, has been since the Celtic Crusaders days, so it should be good.

“Ben’s captained Wales in the past so I’ll be relying on him to help me along!”
