Weyman ready for Knights opener

Michael Weyman believes his St George team mates could be in for a few surprises when they meet Wayne Bennett-coached Newcastle in the NRL‘s opening round.

Bennett moved to the Knights in April after three seasons with the Dragons, an aspect of the clash which will make the encounter an interesting one for the players, according to Weyman.

“It will be different for us but I know everyone is excited about playing against the old coach,” said Weyman.

“I’m sure he has a few things up his sleeve and it will be a big game.

“It’s going to be a tough battle for us right across the park.”

Weyman says Bennett’s arrival at the Knights will make them a different proposition to the team that crashed out of last season’s finals race with defeat to Melbourne.

“I’m sure they’ve worked on a few areas within the team during the break and it will be tough,” added Weyman.

“We still have the main core group of guys in the team still so not much has changed from our point of view as it’s been a pretty smooth transition working under Steve Price which has been good.

“It will be good for us to get off to a good start which is always the case regardless of who it is you’re playing – it can only help with your standings later on in the season.”
