Weyman hopeful on groin injury

Michael Weyman remains optimistic about a return for St George’s opening round clash with Gold Coast, despite twice undergoing surgery on his injured groin.

The Dragons prop has missed a large part of the squad’s preparations so far due to the injury and has been largely confined to training alone.

Weyman, 26, carried the injury through the Dragons’ 32-8 Grand Final success over the Roosters with the help of pain-killing injections, but is now on the road to recovery.

“The injury’s coming along well and at the moment I feel really good,” he said.

“Towards the end of last year I was flat-out walking and not playing but it’s all fixed now and I’m feeling pretty good.

“The coaching staff has got plans in place [concerning] my progress but we keep taking it day by day.

“I’m hoping by the start of the season.”

Weyman tied the knot with his partner during a busy-off season, in which he has endured two bouts of surgery.

“I got married in between operation and it worked out well in the end,” he added.

“I had one operation before getting married, then had the honeymoon and returned for the other operation.”
