Wests 6-14 Canberra: Raiders claim victory over Tigers

Drew Darbyshire

Canberra produced a strong second half display to beat Wests 14-6 at Campbelltown Stadium.

It was a tough battle in the first half, with the opening try coming in the 17th minute as Luke Brooks scored for the Tigers. Moses Mbye couldn’t convert but Wests were 4-0 up.

David Nofoaluma thought he had scored for Wests late on in the first half but it was ruled out by the video referee for a foot in touch. Michael Maguire’s Tigers led 4-0 at the break.

Ricky Stuart’s Raiders hit back with a try in the 49th minute through Jack Wighton, with Jarrod Croker converting to edge Canberra in front.

Wests forward Russell Packer was sin-binned in the 55th minute for a professional foul and the Raiders extended their lead moments later as Nick Cotric latched onto a grubber from George Williams to score. Croker converted to put Canberra 12-4 ahead.

Mbye added a penalty goal for the Tigers on the hour mark, while Croker added one of his own in the 69th minute to secure a 14-6 win for the Raiders.
