Wests 36-20 North Queensland: Tigers clinch win against Cowboys

Drew Darbyshire

Wests produced a clinical first half display to beat North Queensland 36-20 at Campbelltown Stadium.

The Tigers started brilliantly as Zane Musgrove and Joey Leilua scored within the first 10 minutes.

Michael Maguire’s Tigers were in red hot form in the first half, with Luke Brooks and Josh Aloiai scoring to extend their lead midway through the first half.

Wests scored two more through Robert Jennings and Moses Mbye in the final 10 minutes of the first half to give the Tigers a comfortable 34-0 lead at the break.

Paul Green’s Cowboys put in a much better display in the second half than they did in the first. Scott Drinkwater pulled one back for North Queensland in the 54th minute.

North Queensland winger Kyle Feldt then bagged a brace, but the Cowboys still trailed 34-16 after 60 minutes.

Mbye added a penalty goal in the 62nd minute to give the Tigers a 36-16 cushion.

Esan Marsters scored for North Queensland with a couple of minutes to go but Wests finished 36-20 victors following an impressive first half performance.
