Westerman wants to bounce back with derby win

Joe Westerman wants his Warrington teammates to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat with a derby win over Widnes Vikings on Friday night.

Warrington were beaten 11-0 by Huddersfield Giants at the John Smith’s Stadium as they failed to cement their place at the top of the Super League table.

Without talismanic half back Chris Sandow, Warrington have lost their last two games and Westerman wants to get back to winning ways with a win over their local rivals.

“It’s a derby game with a big crowd, everyone will be buzzing and there’s no better way of getting back on the horse than winning a ‘derby’,” Westerman told the Warrington Guardian.

“We’ve been really good in previous weeks and have scored plenty of points so we know that, as a team, Huddersfield wasn’t good enough and we all accepted that.

“We sat down after and we knew what to work on this week. We started on Sunday and have had a couple of big days to crack on with putting it right.

“They’ve lost a few games as well but they’ve got a lot of players back. We’re itching to get back to how we were and if we carry out what we’ve been doing in practice we will do.”
