Welsh prop switches codes to join West Wales

West Wales have announced the signing of former rugby union front-rower Sam Martin for the 2020 League 1 season.

Martin has previously played for Swansea & Dunvant RFC, and will switch codes for the upcoming season.

“If I’m honest at first I was wary of making the big step across,” he said.

“But now after a few months at the club and being welcomed by all, I’m looking forward to the step up in level.

“We have a great bunch of boys as it is and the club are continuing to increase daily. I understand with all the new recruits it’s going to be tough to get a starting position this year but I am working very hard to make it a successful season both for myself and the Raiders.”

On the latest addition, head coach Aaron Wood added: “Sam is a very powerful runner, his low sense of gravity makes it very difficult to stop him or even slow him down, he still needs more time to learn the game but he will definitely be an asset to the squad in 2020.”
