Webster wanting Rovers to string wins together

James Webster wants his Hull Kingston Rovers side to string together a run of victories following their emphatic win at Wakefield last weekend.

The Rovers were 54-16 victors at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium and Webster’s side come up against Wigan Warriors, who were victorious over Salford Red Devils last Friday.

Rovers are the underdogs heading into this game with the Warriors, including on betting sites with Jack and the beanstalk slot.

This has made the Rovers head coach want his side to build on last weekend’s win and that has been the focus for the club in training this week.

“We’re a happy and confident side but we haven’t strung two wins together all season and we’ve spoken about that,” Webster told the club’s official website.

“Wigan are a tough team to break down and they don’t give you anything for free. If you look at their back line, I think every single one of them has played for their country.

“They’ve got some pace, their wingers and full back are very fast and their centres can hurt you from long range. We can’t switch off for one minute against them because they can punish you from all parts of the pitch.

“You can’t afford to give them cheap possession because they’re a team that are very clinical. We need to be good on our try line in defence because they’ve got some good structured plays and if you come up with a plan to defend one system they have the ability to change.

“In saying that, we think we’ve identified some areas that we can hopefully exploit and we need to back ourselves to play some footy.”
