Webster uncertain about Wakefield future

James Webster has acknowledged that his job as Wakefield coach could be in some doubt, after his team were knocked out of the Challenge Cup by Leigh on Sunday.

The Wildcats lost 36-30 to the Centurions, surrendering a 24-6 half-time lead.

“You go into coaching knowing you will get sacked at some point,” Webster told BBC Leeds.

“I’ll go home and think about it.

“I think there will be a lot of changes next week, whether you are talking about players or elsewhere. Things will be different next week.”

Webster also branded a performance from which there were no positives to be taken as “typical” of Wakefield this season.

“How can you take any positives from it?” he said.

“It was typical of Wakefield this season that we couldn’t show any grit or guts to see it out.

“We were 18 points up at half-time and playing against a team from a lower division – they’re probably a better team than we are.”
