Wayne Bennett “most certainly” has chance of remaining England coach

Wayne Bennett has a good chance of staying on as England coach, according to Rugby Football League chief executive Ralph Rimmer.

Bennett’s contract as Great Britain and England coach has expired following the Lions’ disappointing tour of the southern hemisphere.

The RFL will conduct a thorough review of Bennett’s time as England boss before making a decision on the head coaching position.

When asked if Bennett had a chance of remaining England coach, Rimmer replied: “Most certainly.

“He wants to stay on, at least following the last conversation I had with him.

“We shouldn’t forget what he’s done. Yes we’ve had a poor year on the field and we’re all – including the players and coaches.

“But until this point, we have progressed really well. We have put a challenging, difficult international programme together and I don’t regret doing that at all.”
