Watson: Salford won’t be complacent

Salford boss Ian Watson says there will be no complacency from his players when they face Widnes on Sunday.

The Red Devils ran riot the last time the two teams met at the end of March, racking up 30 first-half points on their way to to a 46-10 away success.

“There will certainly be no complacency from us – Widnes are a good team and they have a lot of their key players back for this match, including their first choice half-backs,” he told the club’s official website.

“It is something that we shall need to be aware of, because if we go out, even slightly off, we could struggle.

“All the games against Widnes, over the last couple of years, have been quite close matches, and the game this weekend will most likely be another of those.”

Widnes go into the game on the back of a hard-fought 16-14 victory over St Helens and Watson believes they’ll be gunning for revenge against his team this weekend.

“It was a really good result for them – we had a look through that game and we were really impressed with the way Widnes turned up,” added Watson.

“They looked like they had come through the Easter period really well, and that their medical guys had done a good job in keeping them in good shape.

“They will, therefore, be wanting to come here and make amends for the last time we met them.”
