Watson: Salford “full of confidence”

Ian Watson says Salford Red Devils are full of confidence going into Thursday’s clash with St Helens.

The Red Devils ran out comfortable 46-10 winners at Widnes Vikings last weekend and Watson is delighted with his team’s progress this season.

“Our confidence is obviously on a high on the back of two wins – the feel within the group is one of enjoyment and looking forward to the game at the moment,” Watson told Betfred.

“We’ve got a bit of soreness on the back of the game at the weekend of playing on the ipitch as well. We expected that, so we’ve had a light session this morning to keep them moving again.

“Injury wise we’re not too bad – we’ve got a couple of niggles which we will check on the week, but other than that were pretty healthy.”

Salford face a Saints team who are also in a buoyant mood after two wins on the spin and Watson believes Thursday’s meeting will be a game worth watching.

“Saints have turned the corner – they lost Matty Smith in the last pre-season game which didn’t help them,” he added.

“All pre-season they would have trained with Matty as well and to readjust that to get new combinations out which didn’t help at the start, but they seem to be back up and running.

“They play a good brand of rugby league along with us – we like to move the ball around, so it should be an entertaining battle on Thursday.

“We like to play football – it’s not a secret with us that we like to play football. We like to try and back that up with our ‘D’ as well, so we can afford to move the ball around.

“Hopefully it’ll be nice conditions and people will get to see some expansive rugby.”
