Watson: Salford can compete with the best

Salford coach Ian Watson was in buoyant mood after his side inflicted Castleford’s first Super League defeat of the season.

Gareth O’Brien’s drop goal earned the Red Devils a thrilling 13-12 win to lift the hosts in to fifth in the table.

Watson said: “We’ve been really good in parts and just not seeing games off, so that’s just set a standard that we can compete with the best teams.

“Cas are not dissimilar to how we play, so it’s satisfying to get it right.

“We did do something differently to deal with Cas in defence, but i’m not telling you what they were!”

Salford travel to winless Widnes on Friday night.
