Watmough lauds forward effort

Anthony Watmough praised the effort of his forward colleagues during Manly’s crushing win over the Roosters.

Watmough was a constant thorn in the side of the Tricolours, who failed to contain a lively Sea Eagles pack, eventually going down 52-14 at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

Much of the pre-match talk was about the Roosters’ monster forward pack, which boasted the likes of Frank Paul Nuuausala and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

But Watmough was impressed with the way the boys from Brookvale dealt with the challenge.

“They’ve got some good young forwards, aggressive kids too,” Watmough told Sea Eagles TV.

“We knew if we just used a bit of feet we could get past them and we did a lot of damage up the middle of the field.

“They’re a young tough team, and it was a credit to the boys to come out and put 52 points on the board.”

The Roosters did stage two fightbacks during the match but Manly’s resolve prevented the home side from turning the tide.

“We had to stop that rut for the first 10-15 minutes when they came out,” added Watmough.

“But I think it goes to show what a quality side we’ve got.

“They’re a good team and they had a roll on, and to stop it and put more points on the board is a hard thing to do, so it was a credit to our boys.”
