Watkins expects Leigh to entertain Super League

Leeds Rhinos centre Kallum Watkins believes that Leigh could be a team to watch in Super League in 2017.

The England threequarter played against the Centurions last season in the Qualifiers, and he thinks that they look strong for the coming campaign.

“They’re a good team,” he told Love Rugby League.

“They’ve improved well. They’ve been doing that for the last couple of years, waiting in the wings.

“In terms of who they’re signing, they’re getting in experienced players who have played in the Super League and the NRL, and that will help the club build and help the young players coming through.

“So Leigh will be a good side throughout the Super League season.

“The new players coming in have got to bed in together, but if they get off to a good start that’ll give them a huge boost going into the season, and the team will get better and better.”

Watkins has also been impressed by the entertaining style that the Centurions play.

“They’re exciting too,” he added.

“They’re a really attacking based team, they like to throw the ball around a lot.

“We’ve had a couple of experiences of them – last season in the Qualifiers, and we played them in the Challenge Cup a few seasons back too.

“They can move the ball and play some really good rugby, so it’ll be interesting to see how they go.

“It’s going to be tough. But they’ve got to believe in their team and their abilities to progress.”
