Watkins dismisses NRL speculation

Kallum Watkins re-affirmed his commitment to Leeds after his two tries helped them to a convincing 44-10 win at Hull KR.

Watkins, 22, has been linked with a move to the NRL, in a week that saw Wigan pair Lee Mossop and Gareth Hock confirm their moves to Parramatta Eels for 2014.

He told Leeds Rhinos TV: “There’s been a lot of speculation about the NRL, but I’m committed to the Rhinos.

“I love the club. They’ve looked after me since I was 15, I’m really happy where I am at the moment. 

“I’ve got a young family that I’ve got to provide for, and Leeds are helping me with that, and I want to give that commitment back to the Leeds club and the fans.”

The centre’s two tries helped Leeds to their fifth straight win, and they are now unbeaten in their last seven games.

Watkins added: “We’re happy with how we’re going. We’re on a good run of wins, which has not been like us in the past two years, so it’s great that we can get that consistency.”

Next up for the Rhinos is Friday’s televised West Yorkshire derby clash against Bradford at Odsal.

The two sides fought out an 18-18 draw in the reverse fixture at Headingley over the Easter weekend.
