Wasps want Shaun Edwards to return to the club

Wasps’ director of rugby Dai Young has confirmed he has spoken to Shaun Edwards regarding a possible return to the club.

The 52-year-old will leave his post as Wales defense coach after the World Cup in Japan this autumn.

It was expected that Edwards would take the head coaching reins at Wigan Warriors from 2020 after being unveiled at a press conference last year August.

But the Warriors are allowing Edwards ‘more time to consider his options’ after they didn’t actually sign a contract.

The uncertainty surrounding his future has prompted Wasps – where Edwards coached for ten years – to offer him a position back at the club.

Young told Rugby Pass: “Shaun would be fantastic for us.

“We have spoken to him and made our interest known in someone who is a big part of the club’s history, but I know we are one of a number of options he has.

“I do not know where we stand and we will be talking to him when he is back from his holiday.”
