Warrington Wolves duo George Williams and Oliver Holmes could miss the Easter weekend period, Daryl Powell has confirmed.

Both Williams and Holmes have missed out on the club’s 21-man squad for their Thursday night clash with Salford.

Powell is hoping at least one of his key men could return Monday as Warrington travel to Hull.

Warrington Wolves boss provides update

“Oliver Holmes has got a slight hamstring tear,” Powell said during his pre-match press conference. “He will miss this week and will probably miss Monday. But I am hoping he’ll be available Saturday against Huddersfield, fingers crossed.

“George Williams has an abdominal tear. I’m hoping to get an update from the medical staff later today.

“I’m not sure whether it would be Monday or the Huddersfield game. We may have George back Monday, but if not it should be Saturday.”

Another absentee is centre Connor Wrench. Powell added:  “He’s had a little bit of trouble with his back.

“He went to see a specialist yesterday. It’s pretty good news that it’s a slight bulging disc and not a stress fracture, which he’s had a little bit trouble of in the past.

“We’re hopeful another week or two, he’ll be available for selection.”

Wolves welcome back Ratchford and Ashton

Warrington welcome back Stefan Ratchford and Matty Ashton to their squad ahead of Thursday’s clash at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Ratchford, 33, has been sidelined since their Super League defeat to Wakefield earlier in March.

“They’ll both play (over Easter),” Powell confirmed.

“It’s great to have them both back. They’re great additions into the team.

“Stefan with his experience and he is massively important. That will help hugely.

“I think Matty Ashton has been one of our better players over the course of the early part of the season, so it’ll be great to have him back.”
