Warrington promote England academy duo

Josh McAllister

Warrington Wolves have handed academy stars Josh Thewlis and Ellis Longstaff full-time contracts until November 2022.

Thewlis, 17, became Warrington’s second-youngest debutant in the Super League era in 2019 starting at fullback against Catalan Dragons, helping guide his side to a 34-4 victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Longstaff, also 17, is yet to make a first team appearance but his performances in the academy have earned him a promotion to the first-team squad.

Paul Anderson, Warrington’s academy head coach, said: “As a club, we are extremely excited that two more players have graduated from our academy system, as we aim to keep producing our own players of a high standard with the belief that we can make Warrington Wolves a continued threat at the top of Super League.

“Both Ellis and Josh are hardworking and humble people, and fully deserving of these contracts. They are not only a reflection of what they do on the field but also of the continued hard work they do of it.”
