Warrington could recall Penny

Widnes’ Northern Rail Cup final hero Kevin Penny could be recalled by parent club Warrington if Richie Mathers is banned.

Mathers will appear before a Rugby Football League disciplinary panel charged with a high tackle on Huddersfield’s Luke Robinson.

He has already been charged with a grade C offence for the tackle, which usually carries a suspension of between one and four games.

The Wolves may look to bring Penny back to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to help boost their depleted squad.

Penny is on a week-to-week loan deal at the Vikings and scored two tries in their NRC final win over Barrow last weekend. He scored a try in yesterday’s 34-18 defeat against Gateshead.
